Through the force of a whirlwind in the campus the columns in front of the temple of Jupiter were shattered with their gilden standard; and when the haruspices responded that there would be deaths of magistrates and priests, all the magistrates resigned immediately. Because it had rained stones at Aricia, also because at Rome in many places there appeared visions of toga wearing men which tricked the eyes of those approaching them, a ceremony of supplication was held.
